Introduction
Overview of World's End Lodge, Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia
This small, highly sought-after lodge hosts just 4 anglers per week and the water is not shared with anyone else – making it notoriously difficult to secure a rod. With bookings often filled years in advance, its popularity speaks for itself – no further introduction needed!
The river holds Salmo fario, or Brown Trout – better known as Seatrout. These anadromous fish migrate from the ocean to the river each year to spawn, offering thrilling opportunities for anglers.
What World’s End offers isn’t just exceptional fishing – it’s a one-of-a-kind experience.
MyFlyFishing holds only a few rods, so contact us now if you’re keen to secure a spot!
Fishing
Fishing on the Rio Irigoyen
Fishing for Sea Trout in the Irigoyen River presents three distinct challenges, making this destination both thrilling and ultimately rewarding.
The first challenge is locating the fish, a task accomplished daily by experienced guides as they navigate different sections of the river.
The second challenge is making contact. Sea Trout are highly responsive and demand presentations as varied and imaginative as the angler can provide.
The third and perhaps most demanding challenge is landing the fish. The combination of powerful trout and the natural obstacles in the pools – sticks, roots, logs, and stones – tests the skill and coordination of angler, guide, and equipment alike.
Recommended gear includes 7–8 weight rods with floating or intermediate lines, leaders of at least 20-pound breaking strength, and classic Sea Trout flies to complete the ideal setup.
From nymphs tied in size 10 to large streamers in the late hours, the most effective patterns over two seasons have proven to be Bugs and RG Queen.
Fish Species:
- Sea-Run Brown Trout (Sea Trout): The ultimate prize, these powerful, aggressive fish can grow to record sizes, delivering an adrenaline-fueled challenge for fly fishing anglers.
- Resident Brown Trout: While the sea-run variety is the main draw, resident brown trout also populate these waters, adding to the diversity and excitement of the fishing experience.
- Snook: Anglers can also target this highly combative marine species prized for its exceptional culinary quality.
Season:
The fishing season at World’s End Lodge is short, running from the first week of January through April. The timing of the big runs into the river is always uncertain, usually occurring in November or December. Because sea trout are unpredictable at these latitudes, fishing officially begins in January, which marks the start of a prime time when only fresh-run fish are present. There is also the option to fish the “Sea Pool” – a pool located right next to the ocean.
7 nights, 6 days angling for USD 8615 p.p. Friday – Friday; shared guide, single room, all meals and drinks.
The Accommodation
Comfortable Cozy Cabins
The lodge sits about 800 meters from the ocean, in a forested area and only caters for 4 anglers at a time.
There are only three cabins. The cozy guest cabin offers four single or double rooms (depending on your requirements), each with a private bathroom and comfortable beds.
Just 30 meters away, the dining cabin provides a warm and inviting space to relax before lunch or dinner. With stunning views of the Irigoyen River valley, it is perfect for enjoying conversations and snacks.
The third cabin houses a well-stocked fly and gift shop, along with a spacious living area for unwinding.
All cabins are heated with radiators and charming wood-burning stoves. Electricity is 220 volts, and communication is maintained via telephone and satellite internet. Speeds may be affected by weather and distance, but service operates regularly and reliably.
Menus combine gourmet and classic Argentine cuisine, highlighting excellent wine – especially Malbec – and top-quality cuts of meat. A weekly specialty is the world-renowned lamb, expertly prepared by the chef.
The Guides
Where Expertise Leads the Way
Each day, two anglers fish with one guide, and guides are rotated daily to make the most of their individual expertise. For every outing, our guiding team travels in 4×4 vehicles, ensuring comfort throughout an intensive week of fishing. Upon reaching the designated locations, all fishing is done by wading, and a reasonable level of physical fitness is recommended.
The river is divided into beats, with anglers rotating regularly to ensure optimal use of the water and the opportunity to fish rested pools and runs each day.
The experienced guides are deeply committed to delivering the finest possible experience throughout your fishing week, while safeguarding the river and its wildlife for the future. To ensure this, a strict catch-and-release policy is always followed.
