Introduction
Wild fish. Wild places. World-class.
This is fly fishing, Newfoundland style.
World-Class Fly Fishing Adventure Awaits!
If you’re chasing a true off-grid, salmon fly-fishing expedition deep in remote wilderness, our lodge in southwestern Newfoundland delivers. With spectacular Atlantic salmon and brook trout fishing, this is an experience you’ll want to come back for.
The La Poile River winds through an untouched, rugged landscape — far from crowds and roads. Here, both Atlantic salmon and brook trout thrive. The remoteness means low angling pressure, high catch rates, and a pristine, raw wilderness that recharges your mind, body, and spirit.
Fishing
Remote, Raw, and Rewarding – Welcome to the La Poile.
The La Poile River’s exceptional fishing conditions are no accident. Its untouched wilderness and the complete absence of competing outfitters create an angler’s paradise — home to Salmon Hole Lodge.
From mid-June to late July, Atlantic salmon return in force. Whether you’re a seasoned fly angler or a first-timer chasing your first hookup, these fish will challenge and thrill you. They’re not called the kings of freshwater for nothing.
From mid-July through August, wild, sea-run brook trout push up from the Atlantic — aggressive, vibrant, and eager to put up a fight.
Whether you’re casting for salmon or stalking brookies, the beauty of the La Poile River valley surrounds you. It’s a place where the only thing louder than the river is the silence — and it just might be the reset you didn’t know you needed.
Catch & Release Angling
At Salmon Hole Lodge, we practice catch-and-release to protect the La Poile River’s wild salmon population for future generations.
While provincial and federal regulations allow anglers to retain one small salmon (under 63 cm) per year, all salmon over 63 cm must be released.
Salmon Hole Lodge is proud to be recognised by the Atlantic Salmon Federation as a Live Release Camp — committed to sustainable fishing and the long-term health of Atlantic salmon.
From CA$ 5790 p.p. incl. 15% sales tax, 7 nights, all meals, all guiding, transport from Deer Lake airport (NL), boat and 4×4 transfer to the lodge, fishing licenses.

The Accommodation
Welcome to Salmon Hole Lodge
The Journey is Part of the Adventure
Salmon Hole Lodge is a rustic yet welcoming fishing camp offering clean, comfortable accommodations right in the heart of the action. Located just three miles upriver from the Atlantic, the lodge is perfectly positioned among the La Poile’s most productive salmon pools.
Spacious and relaxed, the lodge hosts no more than six anglers per week — ensuring low pressure on the river, personalized service, and excellent fishing conditions.
Guests stay in six private rooms with shared bathrooms. Adjacent units house the washrooms, generator facilities, and our guide quarters — keeping everything running smoothly without disrupting your wilderness escape.
If you’re after real adventure, this is it!
Remote, raw, and off the beaten track — getting to Salmon Hole Lodge takes effort, and that’s exactly the point.
We handle all the logistics, securing the best flight options and fastest route. But make no mistake — this isn’t a drive-up lodge. The final stretch includes a boat transfer and an off-road 4×4 ride into true wilderness.
This place doesn’t come easy. And that’s what makes it worth it.
Fully licensed by the Newfoundland Department of Tourism, Salmon Hole Lodge is clean, safe, and professionally operated.
All that’s left for you to do… is fish.
Your Host Jeroen Wöhe
Founder, guide, and driving force behind Salmon Hole Lodge
Founder and guide, Jeroen Wöhe is committed to making your stay as rewarding and memorable as the fish you’ll chase.
I first met Jeroen out in British Columbia, fishing the Skeena. Word among the local guides was clear — when it came to understanding these rivers, Jeroen was the guy. At the time, he was training a new guide on the remote Bell-Irving River, and I was lucky enough to join them on a mission to hook some elusive, hard-fighting steelhead. With Jeroen’s focused guidance, I had two hookups and landed one — both within the first hour!
It was clear: this man knows his fish!
Originally from the Netherlands, Jeroen’s angling journey has taken him from Atlantic salmon camps in Russia to tarpon pursuits in Central America. After years exploring and guiding throughout Western Canada, he founded the renowned Skeena River Lodge in 2009, which he ran until 2020.
Too young to retire and always drawn to untapped potential, Jeroen discovered Newfoundland’s La Poile River — and instantly saw something special. Soon after, he took over Salmon Hole Lodge with a vision to create a world-class Atlantic salmon fly-fishing experience, rooted in adventure, simplicity, and skill.
With Jeroen’s instinct for exceptional waters and a dedicated team behind him, you’ll be guided not just into the river — but into the very heart of what makes Atlantic salmon fishing so addictive.
